Deaf World Library
and Museum
In October 2013, Dr. Bryan Eldredge, the director of the American Sign Language and Deaf Studies at Utah Valley University (UVU), received $50,000 grant from Washington, D.C.’s Institute of Museum and Library Services to help plan the first digital “Deaf World Library and Museum.” For more information about the Deaf Culture digital library, see the attached article entitled, “UVU Professor Plans First Deaf Culture Digital Library” written by Natalie Crofts posted on ksl.com. Dr. Eldredge’s dream has finally become a reality.
The Deaf Community in Utah - Dr. Eldredge and Catherine Mclntyre, UVU Archivist, are interested in collecting and preserving Utah Deaf history materials and images, despite the fact that they are not part of the grant. Catherine and her colleagues will scan the documents and add them to the Mountain West Digital Library for genealogy and study. For more information, please visit “The George Sutherland Archives."

The use of digital technologies is becoming more widespread. The growing use of digital technology in research is now available online, and the benefit of this technology is that it allows us to conduct research at home rather than going to the library.
Members of the Utah Deaf community are encouraged to donate their materials and images to the UVU George Sutherland Achieves for historical preservation, genealogy, and research.
