The George Sutherland Archives

The George Sutherland Archives were toured by Philippe Montalette, President of UAD, Marilyn Call, Director of the Sanderson Community Center, and myself on October 18, 2012. Catherine Mclntyre, Archivist, and her two colleagues, Aimee Bastarache and Brent Seavers, have generously shared their knowledge, expertise, and enthusiasm with us.

Utah deaf historical documents have been donated to Utah Valley University's (UVU) George Sutherland Archives for preservation and research.

After a five-year wait, the George Sutherland Archives has finally digitally scanned the UAD Scrapbook and UAD Conventions minutes and posted them to digital collections. Catherine McIntyre, an Archivist and Digitization Librarian at the UVU's George Sutherland Archives, played a key role in the project's success.

Dr. Bryan Eldredge, Professor and Program Director of ASL and Deaf Studies, deserves special recognition for putting his collaborative ideas for this archival project into reality.

Collection of Don Curtis Jacobs'
Utah Eagle Magazines

I'm happy to report that on May 19, 2016, I paid $50 to a stranger named Jeff Buhler for the Utah Eagle magazines from the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind (1900s-1940s). These publications were purchased during an estate sale. Jeff apparently found my contact information on the Utah Deaf's History website and asked if I wanted to buy the magazines. Without a doubt, I answered sure! I'm grateful he bought and saved them. Don Curtis Jacobs, a 1942 graduate of the Utah School for the Deaf, was the owner of the periodicals. They were donated to the UVU Sutherland Archives.
